Typically, within one month of moving into a Supervisor level position, that person will need some guidance and reinforcing strategies for leading others.  This training module accomplishes that by providing new supervisors with concrete, hands-on tools to help them lead their teams through targeted communication, coaching, and counseling.

After completing this 3-day training forum, participants will improve team performance by successfully applying learned concepts:

• Living the role and characteristics of an effective supervisor
• Training front line employees through learning styles
• Determining what method of communication will garner the best results
• Praising and reprimanding more effectively
• Strengthening focus on operational performance measures
• Planning and organizing daily activities
• Reaping performance results through a balance of taking care of the mission and taking care of the people
• Defining standards of performance for the front line team
• Choosing appropriate forms of counseling that best fit employee’s situation and supervisor’s needs
• Preparing for a counseling session, getting to the root cause of an issue, helping counselee resolve problems, and documenting the session
• Providing follow up with front line employees to focus on enhancing their skills

This 3-day training forum builds upon the learning in the “Leading Your Team To Success” module by cultivating specific ways of enhancing your partnership and communication with your direct reports in order to develop their skills and your bench strength:

• Nipping problems in the bud to decrease need for disciplinary actions
• Determining the best uses for counseling for a particular situation
• Using the right counseling skills to reach your goal of either changing behavior, helping with a personal problem, or reinforcing exceptional work
• Preparing for the session – a lost art, that if done properly, makes the session more productive, less stressful for both parties, and keeps both of you from straying from meaningful conversation
• Working through the counseling event, from opening the session to getting to the root cause of an issue to resolving and  following up to ensure change is taking place
• Handling specific behaviors in counseling that, if allowed to continue, would negate any gains made in the session
• Discovering what counseling can’t fix – knowing when to stop and move to disciplinary action
• Coaching for success – what to do before you delegate
• Getting someone ready for delegation of a task
• Practicing your job, as a coach, at each level of follower development
• Creating a simple, easy to use performance management plan– putting responsibility for performance in  the hands of employees
• Setting clear performance and behavior expectations on day one
• Working with employees to take the angst out of goal setting
• Organizing consistent tracking sessions for accountability – the key to high performance

Making meetings work as a platform for enhanced team commitment and problem solving.

In this 3-day training experience, participants strengthen their meeting facilitation skills in order to conduct various types of results-driven meetings.  The goal will be to enhance each participant’s communication methods and relationships in the workplace through the platform of truly effective meetings. This level of training can make huge impacts on organizations of any size.

• Improving group communication through effective meetings
• Learning when to use meetings as a method for improving processes, keeping  teams focused on a project, or making sure everyone has a stake in the success of a project
• Determining when a meeting is NOT the right option
• Choosing the most effective format and agenda based on your meeting goal
• Getting the right people involved in the process
• Developing your prep work for the meeting: most important key to getting results
• Practicing your presentation skills & public speaking – learning  how to get folks excited about the meeting, clear on their part in the meeting, and psyched about the goal – all in the first 5 minutes – a skill that, when honed, will benefit you in any situation where you need to speak publicly
• Drafting your agenda, facilitating the meeting, and dealing with unproductive meeting behaviors
• Teaching team members the skills they need to improve processes so you can let go and let them succeed during and after the meeting
